OnlineBooze.ca is an independent guide to legal alcohol delivery in Canada. We compare every licensed service by province and city on cost, speed, selection and coverage. We do not sell alcohol and we are not affiliated with any provincial liquor board or delivery company.

Who writes this

The site is written and researched by Jean-Pierre Cloutier, based in the Edmonton area.

I've worked inside this industry. From 2017 to 2019 I was Business Development Manager at Celestial Wine and Spirits, selling a 56-product portfolio into Alberta's liquor retail market, where roughly 27,000 competing products fight for the same shelf space. I grew that portfolio by more than 300% in a single year.

That job is where I learned how Alberta's system actually works: every store buying from the same AGLC warehouse at the same wholesale price, unable to compete on cost, competing instead on selection, hours and service. It's why this province has more delivery options than anywhere else in Canada, and why the differences between them are worth writing down.

The rest of my background is operations. Twenty-five years in fleet and logistics, including running day-to-day operations at a taxi company through its sale to TappCar, and directing a 1,000-vehicle national fleet. What a delivery actually costs to make, and why some routes work while others don't, is familiar ground.

I am not currently affiliated with any liquor retailer, supplier, or delivery service. I started this site because Alberta has the most competitive alcohol delivery market in the country and, oddly, the worst public information about it.

How we test

We place real orders. Where we publish delivery costs and times, they come from orders we placed ourselves, not from company marketing claims.

For each service in a city we record the item subtotal, delivery fee, service fees and taxes, the true out-the-door total, the time from order to doorstep, and whether ID was actually checked on delivery.

Tests are dated and repeated quarterly, because fees and coverage change. Where a figure comes from a company's published rate rather than our own test, we say so.

How the site makes money

Some links are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This is the site's only revenue.

Commissions do not influence rankings or recommendations. We regularly recommend the cheapest option even when it pays us nothing. Ordering direct from a local store, for instance, earns us zero and is frequently the best answer.
