Alcohol delivery in Calgary (2026): every option, compared

Calgary has four third-party alcohol delivery apps (Instacart, DoorDash, Skip and Minibar) plus hundreds of private liquor stores that deliver directly. App delivery fees run roughly $3 to $9 and most orders arrive in 45 to 90 minutes. Ordering direct from a store is typically cheaper. Alberta's drinking age is 18 and ID is checked at the door.

Why ordering direct is usually cheaper in Calgary
Third-party apps add two costs, not one. There's the delivery fee you see at checkout, and there's often a markup on the product price itself compared to the shelf price in store.
Calgary's advantage is that you have real alternatives. Because Alberta's liquor retail is fully private, the city has hundreds of competing independent stores, many running their own delivery or offering free delivery above a minimum order.
Independents worth knowing in Calgary include Willow Park Wines & Spirits in the south, long a fixture for wine and whisky selection, along with the Co-op Wine Spirits Beer locations and Real Canadian Liquorstore for everyday pricing. Check whether your nearest store delivers before defaulting to an app. Many do, and don't advertise it well.
Calgary coverage: where delivery actually reaches
App coverage is strongest in the inner city and weakens toward the edges. Beltline, Downtown, Mission, Kensington, Inglewood and the communities inside Glenmore Trail generally see the full set of options and the shortest delivery windows.
Further out, in the far north around Symons Valley, the deep south past Seton, and the newer edge communities, fewer stores are in range, fees rise with distance, and delivery windows stretch. In those areas a nearby store's own delivery is often both faster and cheaper than an app.
Outside city limits, in Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks and Chestermere, app coverage is patchy. Calling a local store is usually the only reliable route.
The rules in Calgary
- Legal drinking age is 18. Alberta shares the lowest age in Canada with Manitoba and Quebec.
- ID is checked at the door, every time. No ID means no delivery, and generally no refund of the delivery fee.
- Retail hours are 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Delivery follows the retailer's licensed hours, and most services stop earlier than the legal limit.
- Alcohol is never left unattended. Someone of legal age has to receive it in person.
- Drivers must refuse intoxicated recipients. This is a licence condition, not driver discretion.
- Couriers are certified. Drivers delivering alcohol in Alberta hold ProServe certification, and on some services the ID must match the name on the order.
Retailers deliver under an AGLC Class D Delivery Service Licence, and delivery by common carrier is also permitted.
Which should you use?
You need it within the hour: DoorDash, which generally has the most drivers active across Calgary.
You're already ordering groceries: Instacart, where bundling makes the delivery fee effectively free.
You want something specific: Minibar, because it shows real inventory across several independent stores at once, the best way to find a particular bottle without phoning around.
You're buying a lot, or you care about price: order direct from a local store. On a large order the savings on both fees and markup add up quickly.
Stampede, long weekends and other bad days to leave it late
Delivery windows stretch significantly during peak demand. Stampede week in July, the Canada Day and August long weekends, New Year's Eve and major Flames playoff nights all put more orders into the system than there are drivers.
On those days, a one-hour estimate can become three, and some stores stop accepting delivery orders early. Ordering in the afternoon rather than the evening is the practical fix.

Frequently asked
Can you get alcohol delivered on Sunday in Calgary?
Yes. Alberta liquor stores may open seven days a week, and Sunday delivery runs on the same 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. window as any other day.
Can I get alcohol delivered to a hotel or an office?
Generally yes, provided someone of legal age is there to show ID and accept it in person. Some hotels require deliveries to go through the front desk.
What happens if nobody is home?
The delivery fails and is returned. Alcohol cannot be left at the door, and most services still charge the fee.
Can I have wine shipped to Calgary from BC or Ontario?
Generally no. Interprovincial direct-to-consumer alcohol shipping remains restricted across most of Canada, so order from Alberta-licensed retailers.
